We currently in the process of designing and building a new house.
We will use the latest techniques to build a very energy efficient low maintainance house.
The house will be constructed of concrete, masonry, steel, and glass.
We will be using both passive and active solar design.
We will be focusing on 3 things in our passive solar design.
- Building position
- Orienting the house to take advantage of the sun and shade at different times of the year.
- Building properties
- Using building materials that absorb or reflect heat or cold.
- Internal and External Environment
- Using insulation, spot heating/cooling, and trees and landscaping to create shaded areas.
The active solar portion of our house will focus on 4 different things.
- Photovoltaic panels
- Panels to generate electricity that can be used or sold back to the grid.
- Solar Collector
- Solar panel mounted on the roof that can heat or cool water as needed.
- Ground Source Heat Pump
- A high efficiency heat pump that uses the stability of the ground temperature to heat and cool the home.
- Radiant Floor Heating
- Warm water is circulated through tubes in the concrete slab to heat the room.
