Solar Collector Below is a picture of a solar collector mounted on the roof used to heat water as needed for home use or to heat the water used to circulate through the floor slab. This hot water is stored in the garage in a 300 gallon insulated tank for use throughout the day or night. The collectors will easily heat this water to 140 degrees. We have set the controller to stop at 125 degrees because hotter water may damage the radiant floor system. This controller is mounted on the garage wall. It is used to control the small pump mounted on the storage tank. This pump moves the water from the tank to the roof where it is heated and returns back to the tank. This controller also helps keep the system from freezing in the winter. When the outside temp drops too low, the pump allows for drain-back.
